ECOSCREED STANDARD

M13 ECO-FRIENDLY FLOWING CALCIUM SULPHATE THICK SECTION
INTERNAL FLOOR SCREED (UNBONDED FORMAT Min 30mm)

Description
Ecoscreed is a pre-mixed, bulk flowing floor screed based upon a special hard variety of calcium sulphate. The product is eco-friendly and is 100% recycled incorporating recycled glass as a replacement of natural sand "eco-sand" and calcium sulphate derived from the de-sulphurisation of coal fired power stations.

The screed can be laid thinner than conventional screeds and up to 1000m² per day at 50mm can be achieved, thereby making it highly competitive in overall time and cost savings compared with conventional sand and cement screeds.

It should be installed either as an unbonded screed or as a floating system in both new and refurbishment projects.

Ecoscreed is ideal for use where underfloor heating and cavity floor systems are being installed, as the very fluid nature of the flowing screed allows full encapsulation and contact with the heating pipes and cavity floor elements. The screed is not designed as a final wearing finish.

Ecoscreed conforms to BS.EN 13813 the European Standard For Flowing Screeds and is delivered in bulk format direct to site via our 12 cubic metre capacity mobile mixer pump trucks or for larger contracts via our on site mobile powder silo system used in conjunction with our mixer pump trucks. The product is only mixed and placed once the vehicle has arrived on site.

Ecoscreed is suitable for all types of floor covering but should generally not be used as the final floor finish. Once laid, the screed should not be exposed to excessive drafts.

It is recommended that prior to the laying of the final tile finishes that the surface should be primed using Primer AP 1000 and the primer allowed to fully dry particularly where cementitious tile adhesives are to be used.

Application : (Ambient temperatures should exceed 5 degrees centigrade.)

  • Unbonded
    • Minimum thickness of 30mm.
    • Fix 10mm border edging strip to all walls.
    • Use lapped single sheet polythene not less than 500 guage.

ECOSCREED RAPID

M10 RAPID DRYING CEMENTITIOUS FLOOR SCREED

Description
Ecoscreed RAPID is a rapid drying conventional cementitious screed that can be walked on in 5 hours and will achieve a minimum compressive strength of
> 25 N/mm²at 28 days. It will be dry enough to receive floor coverings after 3 days at 20ºC regardless of thickness. The material should be laid like any other sand/cement conventional screed and expansion joints and bay divisions should be adopted as for normal sand and cement screed and taking into account any advice detailed in the relevant codes of practice for the flooring being subsequently applied.(see British Standard Codes of Practice eg BS8204 : Part 1 In Situ Floorings - Bases & Screeds)

NB. If floor coverings are to be installed after 3 days then it is important to check that the concrete substrate is sufficiently dry prior to application of the Ecoscreed Rapid. Where the concrete substrate is not sufficiently dry or if there is a likelyhood of rising damp then the Ecoscreed Rapid must be laid over an effective damp proof membrane. eg Ecoscreed Epoxy DPM.

Design Use
Ecoscreed Rapid can be used to produce either a bonded, unbonded or floating internal screed. The cement screed is specifically designed to provide both rapid drying and early foot traffic access.

Prior to overlaying with vinyl then prime with ECOSCREED Primer AP1000 and apply a smooth coating of Ecoscreed Leveller.

Substrate Preparation
The preparation of substrates by mechanical methods such as shotblasting , scabbling or diamond grinding are considered the most effective means of providing a suitable mechanical key. The concrete substrate should be hard, sound and free from dirt, dust, oil, grease, paint, plaster, laitance or other contaminants, which could act as a barrier to adhesion. On direct to earth concrete floors ensure that a suitable damp proof membrane is installed.

Bonded Screed
Ecoscreed Rapid can be applied as a bonded screed to dry concrete surfaces by using a creamy grouting slurry produced by mixing 1 part Ecoscreed Rapid cement powder to 1part clean glass and the required amount of ECOSCREED Primer AP1000 diluted 50:50 with water to produce a creamy slurry. NB. The Ecoscreed Rapid should always be applied and compacted to the substrate whilst the grouting slurry is still wet and workable.

Unbonded/Floating Screed
Always ensure that the concrete substrate is sound and true, flat and free of debris prior to the laying of the separating layer of a minimum 500 guage polythene and / or insulation layer. Use rolls of polythene since the folds in folded polythene can act as crack inducers
.

Mixing
The Ecoscreed Rapid is delivered to site in the Ecoscreed bulk mixer truck holding 10 cubic metres of screed or can be mixed on site by a forced action mixer using the required combination of binder and glass. Normal "free fall" mixers are NOT suitable.

Heavy Duty floor :   1 x 25kg bag Ecoscreed Rapid binder : 4 x 25kg dry glass

Normal screeding:   1 x 25kg bag Ecoscreed Rapid binder : 5 x 25kg dry glass

Water Content

Add sufficient amount of water to obtain a workable mix. When a sample of the screed is squeezed in the hand it should retain its shape and not crumble and the hand being left slightly moist. When the screed is compacted then no film of water should form at the surface. To achieve rapid drying then no more than 8 % water content on total weight of binder + glass should be added.

Application
Once mixed, the Ecoscreed Rapid should be applied immediately
and will have a working time of approximately 60 minutes at 20ºC. Only mix the required amount to allow correct application and finish trowelling to take place. The applied screed should not be subjected to direct sunlight or through wind drafts whilst curing. When a new bay is to be laid against an earlier section that has hardened then it is recommended that such day work joints are vertical and are coated with the grouting slurry as described in the "bonded" application section above.

Thickness
Bonded Screed - Ecoscreed Rapid can be applied as a bonded screed to a minimum thickness of 25mm and a maximum thickness of 40mm .

Unbonded/Floating Screed - Ecoscreed Rapid can be applied at a minimum thickness of 50mm in one single application.

Precautions
Ecoscreed Rapid is non hazardous in normal use. The presence of cement in the product gives an alkaline screed which may cause irritation if prolonged contact with the skin takes place. Care should be taken to avoid inhalation or ingestion of dust and prevent contact with the eyes. Wear suitable protective gear.

Technical Data
Working Time @ 20ºC : 30 minutes approx at 20ºC (Temperature dependent)
Compressive Strength : >25 N/mm² at 28 days
Tensile Strength :>5 N/mm² at 28 days

Yield / Coverage

On a 1:5 mix : 1 tonne of Ecoscreed Rapid binder + 5 tonnes of Ecoscreed Glass will yield 4 cubic metres of screed.

On a 1:4 mix : 1 tonne of Ecoscreed Rapid binder + 4 tonnes of Ecoscreed Glass will yield 3.35 cubic metres of screed.

Moisture Testing

Correctly mixed the Ecoscreed Rapid should be sufficiently dry to receive floor coverings after 3 days at 20oC. Due to the composition of the Ecoscreed Rapid the use of electric conductivity or hygrometer methods are not recommended. Should the moisture content need to be determined then the speedy moisture tester (calcium carbide) should be used.

Isolation
In accordance general codes of practice it is recognized that all isolation joints, construction joints and columns joints should be isolated or maintained through the product to allow both it and the substrate to move freely relative to all fixed parts of any building.

Ecoscreed provides the above data in good faith, without warranty and as a guide to typical values only. The company reserves the right to alter the data at any time. No liability can or will be accepted for any loss or damage arising from subsequent water damage after the screed has been laid. We refer also to our standard Terms and Conditions of Sale that are available on request. This data should not be taken as a specification.
